Open design concepts are trending today in the design world. Open concepts are beautiful and allow for unlimited creativity in space planning. Though many love the idea of an open concept, sometimes it can be hard to fill the space.
What do I put here? What do I put there? How do I break it up? These are questions I get daily as a designer. Here I will discuss tips and tricks for your open concept living room.
Open concept is great for creating a space meant for everyone. Being together in one room creates a sense of wholeness and togetherness. There are many ways to define spaces and separate conversation areas in your living room.
Using rugs beneath furniture groupings can help separate and distinguish conversation areas.
2. Overhead lighting such as decorative e pendants will visually draw ones ye towards the c enter point of a defined
space such as your living room.
3. The use of furniture can be crucial for defining your open
concept space. It is important to arrange furniture in a
way that allows an invitation point for each grouping. Allow
the main group to be center of the room; typically including
your sofa, loveseat, chair, sectional, etc. Arrange these
pieces in line with your focal point such as your fireplace or
television.
4. Surrounding your center furniture grouping, surround with
accent chairs in the corners of your living room, or place in
front of a window for a separate conversation space.
5. The use of art and accessories can help separate furniture and large walls. Sometimes an
open concept space can appear empty if there are not enough items to fill it. Place accent
tables next to or in between chairs to create dimension. The use of book shelves and
console tables can help fill wall and floor space at the same time. Place your art and wall
accessories at alternating lengths to create depth and dimension versus having too much
unity throughout.
