Change is good! As we transition into the new year, we are also transitioning into new design styles. It's out with the old and in with the new when it comes to color schemes. Color is the basis for design, so it is important to change it up every once in a while.
Is white going out? I get this question all the time as a designer. White is not going out, it will forever be timeless, but what I am seeing is bolder colors coming into the mix. Let's take a look at some colors of the year for 2022!
Pantone's Color of the Year 2022: Very Peri
Sherwin Williams Color of the Year: Evergreen Fog
Bejamin Moore's Color of the Year 2022: Mysterious
As you can see, these colors are bold and rich. This year in 2022, I see that people are truly expressing themselves through their home. Let's take look at some inspiration pictures for these new color palettes.
Earth Tones
Earth tone is a color scheme with multiple meanings. In its narrowest sense, it refers to "any color containing some brown" – the color of ground or soil (earth). It can also refer to "natural colors" (colors found in nature) such as brown soil, green leaf, cloudy gray sky, as well as the red sun. These palettes can create a warm, nature-friendly atmosphere.
Earth tones give us a sense of warmth, welcome, and minimalism. It is the easiest color to work around, so designing is no issue.
Jewel Tones
Mary McMahon, researcher and writer from Info Bloom describes what jewel tones are perfectly. She says that jewel tones are rich color tones which resemble well known gemstones, either precious or semi-precious. Typically, jewel tones have a high level of color saturation, which makes them very dynamic and distinctive. There are a wide range of uses for jewel tones, from designer clothing to websites with rich interfaces which are meant to pop in the eyes of people.
Jewel tones are bright, bold, and vivid which is exactly how the world is evolving. We as individuals are more bold and brighter than ever and our design should showcase it.
Moody Tones
Dark and moody tones give a sense of mystery and elegance. Black, gray, browns and dark blues and rich saturated colors set the stage for interiors that are dramatic and distinct. Dark and moody interior design is a style that speaks to a deep and saturated color palette and a richness of depth and character.
With being home for as long as we have, creating a calmer and more relaxing environment makes the most sense. With individuals working from home, it is important to create a sense of calm in your space. It also creates expression. If you're going to be a home the majority of the time, you might as well make it your own!
